My first reaction:  Guess she's not a fan of the "tough love" scenario....

What the teacher did is completely inappropriate and does nothing for anyone's self-esteem. There are other ways that might actually motivate a child. However, I also wonder just how many assignments this child has turned in where it's obvious she doesn't care about what she's doing and it shows. And let's bring in mom on this one too. What's she doing to make sure the child can study and/or get the help she needs if she's not understanding the material being taught. This has been going on all year, and we're going to focus on the "loser" comment rather than finding out why she's struggling? The system is screwed up.

But it doesn't say anything about her being a "bad student"... it doesn't even say she's struggling.

I know, but we really don't have the whole story either.

I don't think the story matters... no teacher should be calling a child a loser.

That's right Ber!  I think the teacher has gone way too far on this.  There is no reason to put comments like that on a paper let alone making the comments in the first place!  Get that teacher out of there!

I agree and that's what I said. I'm just saying there's more here and let's get that kid some help if needed.

I read about a teacher who attaches fast food application forms to failed tests. It's clearly meant as a joke but it could be taken the wrong way. It's possible the teacher just thinks he's being funny or cool but was shot way wide of the mark. Just bad judgement rather than malice?
